Michael Kohilas passed away November 17th 2022.
Born in Magganitis, Ikaria on March 6 1944 to Adonis and Lemonia Kohilas. He had 3 brothers Avieri, Elias, Theodori and 3 sisters Mercina, Eleni and Marika. In 1973 he married Argyroula Kalafatis also from Magganitis and gave birth to Adonis Kohilas. They immigrated to Chicago where he worked for his brother Theodori and wife Maria, painting. His great love was “Kefi” getting together with friends and family, listening to music, especially his nephew Yanni Rousos playing the violin! He enjoyed drinking wine and Metaxa, dancing with his friends young and old. In Ikaria he loved driving his blue Yamaha Grizzly A.T.V. always dressed in his white zip up jumpsuit. Mixalis was known for his love of fishing and dedicated many hours working on mechanical engines. In February he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and fought the difficult battle. Mid October we decided to return to Ikaria and live out the rest of his days in the place he loved the most. As he lay in hospital in Agios Kyrikos, surrounded by the love of his family, he peacefully passed away. He will be dearly missed by us all. May his memory be eternal.
Submitted by his son, Adonis Kohilas.
