Passing of Fifi Skezas

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Fifi Skezas, of McKeesport, died July 29, 2023, at The Sheridan at Bethel Park. Born October 20, 1924, in McKeesport, she was the daughter of the late Gust and Helen (Karas) Skarlis and the devoted wife of the late Nicholas Jacob Skezas.

Fifi dedicated her life to taking care of her family and home. She was an active member of the Annunciation of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, the Philoptochos Society Agia Markella, the Church Board of Trustees, and taught Sunday School. Fifi would volunteer every Holy Week and our Church’s Name Day, passing out candles or ribbons, and enjoyed selling honey balls at the Greek booth for the International Village Festival. She always gave what she could to the less fortunate and encouraged others to do the same. Fifi was so kind, compassionate, and never complained.

Fifi is survived by her children, Dr. Helen S. “Dolly” (David T.) Whelan of VA, Dr. Catherine S. Lobaugh of Pittsburgh, Jacob N. (Dr. Rula) Skezas, Esq of White Oak, Constance M. Skezas of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Jennifer (Tom) Kalka of VA, Christopher (Lindsey) Whelan of VA, Nicole (Frank) Ziccarelli of Lower Burrell, Nicholas (Katerina) A. Skezas of South Park and Eleni F. (David Marsili) Skezas of Pittsburgh; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Eleni Kalka,  Franco, Melina, Valentina, and Donatella Ziccarelli, Parker and Payton Whelan, and Eleftheria Skezas; sisters-in-law, Dr. Marion Skezas and Maria Skezas; and many nieces nephews and godchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jeane Lynch, Maria, Robert, and Nikolas Skarlis.
