Kalliope S. “Popie” Frentzos passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. Kalliope was born February 5, 1937, on the island of Ikaria, Greece. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Frentzos; loving mother of John (Keli) Frentzos and Lisa (John) Kristian; devoted Yiayia of Tommy, Kalliope, Houston, Antoni, and Evina.
Popie is preceded in death by her parents Phillip and Athina Speis, her sister Angela Mamatas, and her brother Tommy Speis. She is survived by her brother Themis Speis of Ikaria, Greece and many loving nieces, nephews, and special friends.
As a young child, Popie was forced to leave her village of Perdiki due to WWII. She spent 3.5 years as a refugee in Ethopia before eventually arriving in America in 1948. Without knowing a word of the English language, Popie persevered and graduated from South Hills High School. Popie truly embraced the American way of life and the opportunities it provided.
